Okay, mint blue. Let’s talk about it.
When we first started stocking this colour, I wasn’t sure how it would land. Mint is one of those shades that sounds lovely in theory but can go very wrong in practice — too icy, too washed out, too “pastel Easter egg” if the undertone is off.
This one doesn’t do that. It sits in a sweet spot between sage and mint — soft enough to feel romantic, but with enough green in it to feel grown-up. On warm skin tones it glows. On cooler skin tones it’s crisp and fresh. We’ve had customers describe it as “the colour I’ve been looking for for three years.” That’s not nothing.
The lace is the thing
I want to talk about the lace before anything else, because it’s what makes this dress actually interesting rather than just pretty.
Floral lace appliqué on a formal gown can go one of two ways: delicate and intentional, or stuck-on and cheap-looking. The difference is usually in how the lace sits on the bodice — whether it’s been properly finished at the edges, whether it follows the seam lines, whether it looks like it belongs there or like an afterthought.
This one is the good kind. The lace sits flush against the bodice, the floral pattern is fine rather than chunky, and it catches light in a way that photographs beautifully. For an outdoor ceremony in bright Australian sunlight — think a garden wedding in the Adelaide Hills or a vineyard in the Yarra Valley — the way this lace moves in natural light is genuinely lovely.
Flutter sleeves + Australian summer = a conversation worth having
Flutter sleeves are having a moment, and I understand why. They’re more interesting than a strapless neckline, they provide a bit of arm coverage without being heavy, and they move beautifully.
Here’s the honest version though: if you’re wearing this to an outdoor wedding in Queensland in January, or standing in a marquee in Perth in February with no airflow, the sleeves add warmth. Not a lot — the fabric is sheer and light — but it’s worth knowing. The chiffon skirt, on the other hand, is genuinely breathable. It’s the kind of fabric that actually benefits from a bit of coastal breeze rather than fighting it.
For Melbourne winters or a cooler evening event, a light wrap in ivory or champagne over the top works perfectly. The dress is structured enough that it doesn’t need the wrap to look finished — it’s just there for warmth.
The silhouette — A-line, which is the right call
V-neck, A-line, flowing chiffon skirt. It’s a combination that works because none of the elements are fighting each other. The V-neck elongates. The A-line balances. The chiffon moves.
The skirt has real volume — not ballgown volume, but enough that it swishes when you walk, which is exactly what you want from a formal gown. It’s also long enough to be genuinely elegant without being so long that you’re constantly worried about tripping on it. (Anyone who’s navigated a gravel path at a winery wedding in a floor-length gown knows this is a real concern.)
Sizing — the part that actually matters
Standard sizes plus custom sizing, and I’d genuinely recommend considering the custom option. Every dress is made to order anyway, so the tailors are already cutting fabric specifically for your order. Giving them your actual measurements rather than a size chart approximation costs a little more but usually means a better result.
If you’re between sizes, or if you have a longer torso, or if you’ve ever bought a formal dress and then spent more on alterations than you expected — custom sizing is worth it. Please refer to our Size Guide for measurement instructions.
Order at least 4–6 weeks before your event. Production takes 2–3 weeks, shipping adds time on top of that. Don’t leave it to the last minute — made-to-order means there’s no warehouse stock to pull from if you’re in a rush.
A few questions we get asked, answered properly
“Will this work for a garden wedding in Sydney in November?”
Yes — the chiffon is light and breathable, the colour works beautifully in natural light, and the flutter sleeves are sheer enough that they won’t make you overheat. Just factor in that Sydney spring can be unpredictable. Have a plan for if it rains.
“I’m going to a black-tie event, is this formal enough?”
Depends on the event. For a gala or awards dinner, yes — the lace and the length read as properly formal. For a very strict black-tie dress code where floor-length is expected, check the hem length against your height before ordering.
“Can I get it in a different colour?”
Reach out to us directly. Some styles have alternate colourways available that aren’t listed on the site.
“What shoes?”
Silver or gold strappy heels are the obvious answer and they work well. Nude heels if you want the dress to do all the talking. If you want to be a bit more unexpected, a soft blush or even a pale lavender heel can look really intentional against the mint.
